Model 871 | 1 kHz to 12.75, 20, 40 and 51 GHzSingle or Multi Channel Signal Generator

The Model 871 series is perfectly suited for a variety of applications that demand precise and broad output power ranges, very consistent phase coherence across all channels, and high signal quality. This signal generator series encompasses a range of configurations that are phase-coherent, single- or multi-channel, ultra-fast switching and ultra-low phase noise with a range from 1 kHz to 20, 40, and 51 GHz. Superior phase noise is paired with an advanced switching speed of 5 μs and strong spurious and harmonic rejection.

A high-stability OCXO reference provides excellent stability and frequency accuracy. In addition to the widely used 10 and 100 MHz for higher phase synchronization, the generator also accepts a versatile range of external references in the 1-250 MHz range for applications with customer- or system-specific reference frequencies. Additionally, the Model 871 contains two high-frequency CLK ports (3 GHz, one input and one output) that allow for excellent phase synchronization between the outputs of several BNC instruments with comparable ports.

The Model 871 is available as a 19-inch 2U rack-mountable module (up to 4 channels) or as a desktop enclosure (single channel). It may be operated with ease using GUI software on a PC. Additionally, the device has multiple communication interfaces, including LAN, USB, and GPIB. With the SCPI 1999 command set, communication between interfaces is quick and simple. It is quick and easy to remotely control the instrument from any host system. The control implementation is made relatively simple by a customer-supplied application programming interface (API) or by programming examples for Matlab, Labview, C++, and other commercially available tools.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

RF Configuration Options | What are the differences between LN and LN+?

RF Configuration Options | What are the differences between LN and LN+?

The key difference between LN and LN+ is that LN+ will have better long-term performance—for example, a better Allan variance for a longer time. For short-time performance, they are identical.

Here's another example...Option LN adds a 100 MHz OCXO on the ref board, applying to all channels. Option LN+ will do the same. The only difference is that the OCXO will have better long-term stability.

You can incorporate either LN or LN+. Options can't be combined and priced per unit.
