Online Training Scintillation Crystals and Detectors
Web-Based Training Module: An Introduction to Scintillation Detectors and Scintillation Crystals
An introductory understanding of scintillation crystals and detectors can serve as an essential tool for new students or staff just starting in Nuclear Spectroscopy field. BNC's complimentary web-based training module will provide students with a concise but thorough overview of some of the most important aspects of scintillation detectors. The interactive course is broken down into three general topics: Scintillation Detectors, Scintillation Crystals, and Light Read-Out Technology. An optional expansion module on Germanium (HPGe) detectors is also available. Topics ranging from the components of a PMT to the effect of temperature on crystals will be covered in an easy to follow interactive format.
The online module takes a few hours to complete but is self-paced and offers students the flexibility to complete it on their own schedule. Optional tests are available at the end of each course to gauge the student's knowledge.
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to identify the following:
- Principles of operation of scintillation detectors.
- guidelines for scintillation detection efficiency.
- scintillator interactions with gamma ray, weakly penetrating, and minimum-ionizing particles.
- Characteristics of gamma-ray scintillation spectrometers.
- scintillator spectrum stabilization techniques.
- Scintillation crystal properties for selected applications.
- Properties of scintillation readouts.
- High Purity Germanium Spectroscopy.
