November 18, 2024 - Product Spotlight: Model 960 Radiation Monitor
Under the spotlight this week is BNC’s Model 960 - a radiation monitor that flexes to meet the demands of several different operations. The model’s robust array of features positions the 960 as an ideal solution for the following applications: discrete perimeter monitoring, unmanned remote monitoring, cargo container security, conveyor or robotic system integration, surveillance of critical infrastructure, or other moving source locations. Let’s take a closer look at the available integrations: Model 960 - Pedestrian, - Hospital Waste Check, and - Conveyor Belt or Area Monitor.
Pedestrian
Controllable by a PC placed nearby or in an office with a local and/or remote alarm, this configuration is specifically designed for homeland security and monitoring of critical sites (official buildings, sport events, airports, etc.). The Model 960 - P features a Gamma detector with PMT, 100 nSv/h - 40 mSv/h measuring range, 60 keV - 6 MeV energy range, and can be stand alone or self-supporting.
Hospital Waste Check
Settable alarm thresholds, flexible configuration, digital connection with electronic noise reduction, continuous background measurement, and more define the Model 960 - H. Each detector is shielded by 1 cm of Pb with the dual purpose of shielding background and increasing measurement efficiency by providing some backscattering. This monitor can be placed anywhere in the plant - fully manage the system remotely from any PC on the local network.
Conveyor Belt or Area Monitor
Designed with intended use in the recycling industry. This Model 960 configuration has high sensitivity for hidden sources with virtually 100% detection probability when placed close to conveyor belts. A relay connected to the alarm signal can be used to activate external devices (traffic light, barrier, siren, belt block, etc.). Alternatively, certain configurations of this Model 960 could also be used as an area monitor to check radioactivity level in a defined area, whether indoor or outdoor.
