April 19th, 2022 - BNC + CAL OES
Berkeley Nucleonics (BNC) offers a wide range of radiation detectors and isotope identifiers both internationally and within the USA. Notably, the company has grown into the vendor of choice as a result of providing local program support with both equipment and training services. Throughout the past 2 years, BNC has met frequently to provide support and training within the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. Various departments and private facilities in counties throughout California (Monterey, Kern, Contra Costa, San Francisco, etc) are equipped with the BNC SAM 950 for the purposes of isotope Identification.
Facilitating Training Programs
The SAM 950 continues to be a top choice for CAL OES counties that are seeking to develop their hazardous material response. As recently as last month (March 2022), BNC staff were onsite to support hazardous response training for Contra Costa County’s fire department. Exercises included hands on search and survey, as well as data analysis and reachback efforts.
Berkeley Nucleonics offers onsite support visits to help personnel set up key features on their SAM 950 to address their particular mission goals. For example, during a visit to Butte County, our radiation detection support team set up key reachback features with HAZMAT members.
Digital Resources and Ongoing Training
One developing tool from Berkeley Nucleonics is the growing list of digital resources. From product documentation to training modules online to apps for smartphones, the BNC radiation detection solutions are leveraging the latest tools for the responder community.
Because we are engaged with end users on a weekly basis, we are able to develop hardware and software solutions that meet emerging requirements. Our isotope library, for example, is widely respected as the most comprehensive spectroscopic library available in a RIID. We have branching ratios and daughter products well assimilated in our identification results. Other user features like button location or weight distribution are all elements that have evolved through in-the-field exercises with end users. If you are considering launching or expanding your radiation detection program, start with a call to Berkeley Nucleonics….we are happy to discuss your goals.
